Shanghai Rolex Masters 2013. Shanghai Rolex Masters 2013, one of the major masters tournament outside the Grand Slam quartet, will court a great deal of attention when it begins on October 6. Ticket sales for the week-long tournament have started to a good reception. Tennis Channel brings its live telecast to the USA. There will be a number of options for live stream of the event too.
Roger Federer has confirmed his participation. There is a funereal air to his career now, after an inert performance at the US Open. The Shanghai Masters might be a good chance for him and his legions of fans to evaluate his position at the new order of world tennis. He will have to face all his nemeses of recent times at Shanghai: Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
Even though Shanghai Masters is regarded as a major tennis tournament, its history is thin. Nikolay Davydenko won its first edition in 2009. Murray won the trophy twice in the next two years. Djokovic quelled Murray’s hat-trick hopes at Shanghai last year. Interestingly, two of the game’s stalwarts –Federer and Nadal – have not won the only ATP championship outside Europe and North America. This could well be the last chance for Federer.
Race for oriental glory
Nadal will be in the best frame of mind for the tournament. His comeback after an injury-induced, six-month hibernation has been complete with the victory at the US Open. Djokovic, who lost to Nadal at the US Open final, will now have some scores to settle. Another player with fond memories of Shanghai is Murray, who will try to arrest the free fall in his after the Wimbledon triumph. However, the tennis world will be offering its loudest emotional applause if Federer wins the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2013.
